Research Summary

Kim Lab’s research fields are to build nanosystems and fabricate nanoscale devices with bottom-up and top-down approaches.

We investigate new and novel micro/nano patterning technologies, nanostructuring using the bottom up approaches like self-assembly from supra-molecular chemistry knowledge as well as micro-machining/MEMS technology, such as micro shadow masks. Self-assembly is one of the promising strategies for autonomous organization of nano-components and making ensembles of nanostructures.

On the other hand, we have also interest with development for novel micro/nano probes from micrometer to nanometer ranges through conventional top down approaches. There are micro-machined NSOM( Near-Field Optical Microscopy) probes for single molecule detection, thermally actuated probe system for single cell manipulation, Si-based micro probe cards, micro electrodes for detection of neuron signals and etc..

マイクロニードルの新世界

We investigate a novel fabrication method to achieve the user-friendliest, low-cost, and safest way for dissoluble micro needles patch with vaccine delivery. The micro needle mediated drug delivery system has been developed to provide painless self-administration of biological drug with patient friendly manner. Especially, dissolving micro needles, which deliver the target drugs as the drug-loaded micro needle dissolves into the skin, have been spotlighted recently.
